Happy New Year everybody. Hope y’all had a good old time this holiday season. We had a blast playing in Wolfville, N.S. at the Old Orchard Inn, December 23rd; lots of old friends and new faces.

We’ve got a couple of special shows coming up this month of January for those of y’all in Halifax. Prince Edward Island’s Racoon Bandit are releasing a split vinyl with Sister Jack. We’ll be opening for the Bandits at The Carleton January 15th. The Racoon Bandits put on a great show, and, at a venue like the Carleton, you can’t possibly lose.

Next is Halifax’s In The Dead of Winter Festival. Sounds like it could be either Norwegian Black Metal or this. It’s the latter. We’ll be playing Thursday, Jan. 26th at the Bus Stop Theater with Jenny Berkel and Willie Stratton. Yes, it will be a fine time indeed. Check out the other acts! Cheers to the festival organizers for keeping our hearts warm through this soggy, cold winter.

I’ll leave you with a couple of videos. The 1st one was filmed out west by our friends from Welcome To The West, just downstream of the Bearspaw Dam on the outskirts of Calgary.

These fine young videographers have been filming bands coming to and from the Calgary area since 2009, and their first video happened to be of our very own Alex Hastie. These guys do it for the pure love of music and it shows in their work that they have a knack for getting to the heart of what makes music special. No trends or pretentions – true guts and glory.

Next is a video we did at the Company House during the Flight of the Fall music festival. There you go, the two faces of the Moonshine Ramblers in one post.

See you on the ramble.

-Markus G.

If we don’t see you here, we’ll see you in 2012

;)

All love,
Moonshine Ramblers

We’re taking some time off gigs for a little bit to get stuff sorted out.

This Sunday, November 13th, if you’re in Halifax, tune in to Q104 at 9pm to hear us on Route 104 with Tom Bedell. We’ll be playing some new tunes in the studio and doing a little interview.

Keep checking back here, its the most reliable source for what’s up with the Ramblers

Singer/songwriter Matt Hornell will be joining us for a night of sweet tunes. We’re trying to make it up to Moncton for the show cancellation on the way back through on our tour. Don’t let us feel bad, come out!

The boys will be playing on Saturday night at The Carleton filling in for the Carletones, show starts at 10. Be there.

Come find us this summer. We’re playing all around the maritimes at different times and in different settings: fundraisers, festivals, outdoor concert series, straight up Gus’ show. Name it, we’re doin’ it. That was intentional so that you have no excuse for not coming out to at least one show. We’re really excited for the Carleton this Saturday. Come on out!

Also, I wanted to let you know we do weddings. Make your wedding truly unforgettable with the Moonshine Ramblers. For an extra fee, we will walk the bride down the aisle.

Also, also… completely unrelated, but, we got the chance to see Fred Eaglesmith play during the stampede at the Palomino. We met him afterwards and did a little CD swap. He gave us a limited edition copy of his new album 6 volts. We listened to it nonstop the whole way back and it still gives me chills. It’s a great album full of witty sad-old-bastard tunes and a ton of heart. He told us he did it with a single mic, on tape and said it was the hardest thing he’s ever done. If you don’t know who this man is, change that and check out this album, its a classic.

The Ramblers have touched down in their homeland. Our last show takes place tonight at the Capital. Students are free, alright. We are road-weary but in great spirits. Looks like the Moonshine Rammer’s coming home after all.
Now, if you’re a Haligonian, you’re probably wondering why there’s no show in Halifax or even Nova Scotia. We tried. We weren’t too sure about our plans so we just went out and booked when we could. Halifax was booked solid, fortunately, we won’t be going anywhere so look out for a Hali show soon.

I’d like to turn your attention to a little award that we managed to pick up which we’re quite proud of and which reinforces the fact that our fans are the real unreal deals. The award in question is the Independent Music Awards Vox Pop (an international contest, no big deal) which was voted by you, the fans. The great thing is, we didn’t even need to hassle you guys, you just did it on your own you aly devils, you. We thank you all, it’s incredible to know that there’s people behind us. High five.

You may have also noticed that there’s been a lack of pictures as of late. We lost our only proper camera in Alberta so we’re calling for any photographers who have taken our souls to direct them to ramblingmusic@gmail.com and we’ll try to get a gallery up for y’all.

Stay tuned for summer plans and further shenanigannery…
Love, the Ramblers

Our sweet bud Laura Merrimen hooked us up with a show at the Barfly in Montreal tonight (July 19th). We are super stoked to return. Gotta run!

Sault Ste. Marie was a great success, we played three sets for the annual Rotaryfest, the Soo’s answer to the Bluesfest which is more like Coverbandfest. We had a great time dancing our asses off to My Son the Hurricane who marched in to their set on the Second Stage, outside of Lop Lop’s, banner unfurled, to a dirge. Great fun band, we’re going to try to get them to come to Halifax.

If you’re in Toronto, come on down to the Dakota Tavern. We’re opening for Samantha Martin and the Haggard. Weioo!!

Sorry T-Bay… we had to cancel. We’re trying to hook up another gig there, we’ll keep you updated.

On a lighter note, the Calgary Stampede has been incredible so far, we played two shows at Calgary’s east coast bar to packed-out-the-door audiences ready to get down. So many maritimers. Miss Quincy and the Bitterweed Draw joined us, partying with us to noon the next day. We’re here one more day to shoot a video with Welcome to the West and are going to head over to the Palomino tonight to see Fred Eaglesmith – we’ve had Drive-in Movie on heavy rotation in the Moonshine Ram.

Guitar kidnappers/caretakers

Miss Quincy and her ladies have a penchant for kidnapping our people and guitars.
